Athletics

As we start to prepare for athletics - here are a few tips to practise at home.

Shot put  - Tuck the shot put into the nape of your neck with your palm facing up - lean back on your back leg.  Point to where you want to throw and push.

High jump - remember to stand on the correct side.  Run up and alongside the bar.  Straight legged scissor jump over the bar.

Toe up to the line.  Get ready to run your fastest. Look straight ahead (not at the others in the race)

Discus - Stand side on with your legs shoulder width apart.  Point your arm to where you want to throw the discus.  Keep your throwing arm straight and bend your back leg.   You can use the duck grip if your hand does not fit over the discus.  Three big swings backwards while bending your back leg and throw!  Follow through your throw with your arm each time.

Hurdles - Run fast and jump by swinging legs to the side as you go over the hurdles.  If you knock one over - keep going!

Long Jump - The faster you run - the further you will jump!  Try and launch off one foot as far down the mat as possible - as you jump throw both arms forward to the level of your shoulders and land on two feet.
