The Monster Fair

Wow what an amazing effort everyone put in to our Monster Fair.  It was a great success despite the weather and their were lots of warm interesting places to explore like the Fairy Grotto, face painting, haunted house, bands, raffles, toy store, shabby chic, books stall and many more.  Hoopla was VERY popular and was the second stall to sell out!  It was a new game to the St Albans Fair and proved to be a big hit with some luck punters walking away with multiple jars of goodies!  Thank you to all those parents that came and supported and helped on the day.  It was much appreciated.

Making Fruit Pops

Last week the green reading group read a book about making fruit pops so we decided to try them too.  We had to follow the instructions and make sure we had all the ingredients and equipment.  They were delicious.

Heart of Achievement

Congratulations to Lily Morrison for receiving a Heart of Achievement.

Writing instructions - Potions

As we have been focusing on writing instructions and recipes we were lucky enough to have Anya Whelan (Alex's mum) come into our class and show us how to make herbal potions with essential oils.  We smelled many different oils and learn that it takes hundreds of roses to extract just a few drops of rose oil so it is very precious.  We made two potions - one to help with colds and flu and the other to help us think clearly and freshen us up (brain break).

We made one by ourselves with citrus oils and eucalyptus to freshen our room.
It was fun mixing the potion.  We have been writing our own magic potions in class.

Room 5 Picnic

What a great afternoon at Abberley Park for Room 5 class picnic.  It was great to see you all with your families having fun in the weekend.  There was tennis, soccer, tag, fish n chips and pizza and a lolly scramble.  A big thank you to Cherana Thomson for organising this.  Thank you to those of you who could come along - I know it is a busy time of year.

How to Brush your Teeth

We have been learning about how to write instructions and this week we focused on brushing our teeth.  We have all been visiting the Community Dental Clinic over the past few weeks and even Ms Hansen has been to the dentist.  It is important to make sure we are cleaning our teeth correctly and the dental nurse had a few tips.  We were lucky enough to be given new toothbrushes and tooth paste by Papanui Dental Clinic and the Community Dental Clinic.

Remember

  • 2 mins minimum of brushing 2x a day!
  • Use a fluoride toothpaste (spiderman or adults one)
  • Use a soft bristled toothbrush (not electric for kids)
  • Brush inside and outsides of teeth as well as surfaces
  • Floss 1x a week
  • Spit don't rinse
  • Avoid juice and fizzy drinks (milk or water only)
  • It is recommended that parents should be brushing children's teeth up till about 7 or 8 years of age!
