Heart of Achievement

Congratulations Coll for receiving a Heart of Achievement.  These are given out for showing all of the school values. There are only 8 awarded each year per class and it is very tricky for Ms Hansen to choose.  Keep being kind and using your initiative, caring for others and doing quality work.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!!!!!!  READ......PLAY.......BE KIND........BE HAPPY......AND REACH FOR THE STARS :)

Last Day of Term Fun

What a wonderful term we have had in Room 5.  Some of the Junior Team decided to get together and play some fun old fashioned games today to celebrate our learning.  We did 3-legged races, onion & spoon races, Bag races, and ring toss as well as running races.

Inquiry - Time after Time

There is a great event on this weekend that relates to our inquiry; "this weekend in West Melton we are having the Time After Time Field Day. Going to be a ripper, pop out and visit. We have built a replica village with attractions from the late 1800's. We will have 12 traction engines, antique cars and tractors, blacksmith, Clydesdales, farmers market, food, a dixie band and heaps of other attraction. Come on out! 454 West Melton Road, West Melton!"
It is on from 10-4pm and is free!

Grandparents Day

What a fantastic turn out for Grandparents Day.  A huge thank you to all the family members who made an effort to join us.  It was interesting hearing how schooling has changed over the past few decades.  I bet most of Room 5 are pleased we don't write on slates or get the cane anymore!

Little Red Riding Hood

As part of our focus on fairytales we have been looking at the story of Little Red Riding Hood.  In literacy we have been retelling and sequencing the story, then predicting what comes next.  We are making a written book retelling the story in our own words.  This is Alex acting out the story in the playground.
A great way to support your child's learning at home is to get them to act out stories as you read or tell them.  It has been proven that action associations can help to cement language and ideas for deevloping readers.  Happy acting!

Creative Writing

We are focusing on narrative writing in term 3 and the children have been loving our fairytale studies.  Today I introduced the story envelope where the kids had to choose pictures out of a bag and then make a up a story to go with them.  The pictures were all drawn by past students of mine.  Here are a few examples.  Ask your child what they pulled out of the bag and wrote about.

Milo Cricket

Today we were lucky enough to have a go at cricket with the Milo Cricket team.  It was so much fun learning how to hit and field the ball.  I was amazed at how well Room 5 did and must say the girls had a great eye for the ball!  Well done everyone - what a fun morning.
