The Wonkey Donkey

Craig Smith was at school today and performed a great show for us.  He sang many songs and some students got chosen to be the puppets.  Disha, Joe and Lily were picked out of the audience to be assistants.  Craig was very funny and we got a chance to find out more about him at the end.  We LOVED it!  The children learnt how to make a water dripping noise with their cheeks.

Book Parade

Wow!  What an awesome day.  You all looked amazing!  I loved seeing all the children parading their favourite books and dressed up as book characters.  Well done to Charlie & Mia for winning a prize for your outfits.

Book Exchange

We are hoping to do a book swap on Friday as the end of book week.  Please bring 1-3 books you have at home that you no longer want or require and Room 5 children can swap them for another within the class.  It is a fun way to replenish your child's bookshelf without costing anything.

Mrs Knickerbocker comes to Discovery Time

We had a great time at discovery today.  We focused on Drama and Performing Arts with a puppet theatre and puppets shows, performances to the Frozen sound track and a large bin full of dress ups.  Mrs Knickerbocker took her girls to town shopping with their handbags.  We saw several policeman and many superheros.  It was fun dressing up today.

Heart of Achievement

Congratulations to Joe for receiving the Heart of Achievement last week - you deserved it!

Something Fishy is Going on in Room 5

Today Coll's Mum donated some fish to our class as our pets.  We have been learning about caring for others through our school values and as we are having a water themed term I thought it would be good to acquire a water dwelling pet.  It was very exciting when the fish turned up .... there were 3!  Coll had cleaned the tank and had it all ready with jewels and all.

We had a class brainstorm for name ideas and then through a process of elimination and voting decided as a class.  They are called Sushi, Wasabi and Ginger!  Thank you so much to the Thomson whanau for their generous contribution which included vitamins, food, oxygen weed and special drops for the water.

It will be the superstars job to feed them each day and check on them.  Sushi is already proving to be the greediest.

Here is our first entry into the reading challenge - Charlie on the huge green grass sofa in restart.  You look like you are enjoying your book Charlie! Don't forget to send in your pictures of reading in a strange position or place for a chance to win a double dip into the magic suitcase!

Mid Term Meltdown

Today when we arrived at school there were many exciting ice deposits to be discovered around the playground.  There was a lot of chatter about how it got there and how it was made.  There were lots of different shapes and colours, some had glitter, jewels and lollipops inside. It was a great inspiration for our writing today.

Some of our phonics activities we have been doing lately ....

Y is for yummy yoghurt
We made vanilla yoghurt.  We had to shake it a lot and leave it overnight in a warm bath.  Some of us tried it with berry topping.  We all (well nearly all) loved it!

W is for Weaving!
We did some weaving for the letter W.  We had to go over and under.  It was quite tricky and took a long time.  We had to show some perseverance.
