Well done Room 5 for dressing up in red & black today to help raise money for hearing impaired children. My own daughter is deaf in one ear so I understand the struggle those children face on a daily basis.

Folk Dancing
Today we started folk dancing in the junior team. The children loved the birdie dance and Carnavalito. We will be practising every Tuesday afternoon and will put on a demonstration towards the end of term.
Museum Trip - Looking Back in Time
On Monday morning we visited the museum. We were finding interesting things in the old christchurch streets. Some things looked very different and some things looked similar. It was fun finding all the pictures on the sheet and trying to figure out what they were. Thank you to Cherana (Coll's mum), Lauren (Jack's mum), Jason (Georgia's dad) and Janelle (Sophie's mum) for helping us. Your support is greatly appreciated.
This was the ignition into our focus this term - CHANGE IS GOOD. In room 5 we will be looking more in depth at how clothing and art/story telling and schooling has changed.

Watch this space - more to come very soon.
Number number number
We have been doing a lot of number exploration over the past two terms and we are continuing to build our number knowledge and increase our number strategies. There are many different ways to solve the same problem and Room 5 children are learning all about this. Here are some examples of different activities we do during maths practice time. We are also looking at geometry and shape in strand mathematics this term so encourage your child to find and describe different shapes they find around the home.

Welcome back to Term 3
What a great way to start the term with Maori language week. Tamariki in akomanga rimu are learning how to introduce themselves in Maori. I have sent home a notice regarding the personality bags we are doing this term to encourage public speaking leading up to the poetry competition in week 5. Please help your child practise at home so they are prepared.

Happy Holidays!
I hope you are all enjoying your holidays. Don't forget to keep writing in your diaries so I can see what amazing things you got up to. Also remember to visit the local library and start thinking about your favourite fairytales for next term. Have a great break and I will see you on Monday the 21st of July!
